Last night, I watched the beginning of Toy Story with my sister "d'accueil." Claire received all three Toy Story movies from her godfather last night, and I think I was more excited than she was. Immediately I called out "J'AIME TOY STORY!!!" So, naturally, she had no choice but to invite me to watch the movie with her. The family does not have a TV. The children all play musical instruments for fun when they need a break from their homework. Therefore, we watched the movie sitting on dining room chairs in front of the family computer... not exactly the most comfortable cinema experience.
We only watched the first 30 minutes because Claire had school in the morning, but I laughed the entire time. My favorite line was the very beginning when Mr. Potato Head was the robber. As money fell to the ground, in stead of kissing the "money, money, money" he kissed the "francs, francs, francs" When Woody appears to save the day, Mr Potato Head screams, "Oh No! Le Sheriff Woody!!" And of course, all the songs were in French as well.
I was very surprised how much I understood (We watched without subtitles). But maybe thats not a testament to my growing french skills, but rather to the 150 times I've seen the movie.
Also, last night we had Galette de Roi, my FAVORITE dessert. Its the dessert that is in my picture. It's a sort of cake, but not fluffy. And it's 100% delicious. Anybody who comes to France to visit me (Mom, Dad, GMA, Tommy), get ready to eat this at every meal. Also, inside the cake there is a "feve" which is a little toy. Whoever gets the feve in their piece of Gallete is the queen (La Reine) or king (Le Roi) for the night. It's a cute tradiiton, the youngest sits under the table and calls out who gets the piece that is being cut on the table. This way, whoever wins is a surprise (because normally the maker of the Galette knows where the feve is). AAAAAnd I won last night (it was about time)! I got to pick a king, so I picked Pasha, le petit hamstere.
I'm crossing my fingers that tonight we finish Toy Story!
Here is the song of the day that everyone must listen to. It's another one that I finally listened to after watching the music video twice a day at the gym. I obviously like it now that it's been pounded into my brain, but it includes Bob Sinclair who is considered a musical DJ genius in France. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK42LZqO0wA
it's silly.
its because bob sinclar is the bestttttt
ReplyDeleteI love hearing all about your stay in France, Meghan. Sil-vous plait, will you write about the host family? Who they are-=how many- what they do, etc. And your house-in the burbs? you have a yellow room? Any and all you can think of...I love it! And so glad you are there .
