Request of the Day

I have a request to talk about my French family... and I really think today is THE most perfect day to do so.
In my french house, I live on the third floor with my sister Bea. Bea is 17 years old, plays the piano, and is a very serious student. For example, last night, she decided to really rock out and listen to some music like crazy kids these days like to do... except her music of choice was opera. On the same floor lives Marie. Marie is the daughter of a friend actually. She is only in Tours until February, thank God. Marie doesn't like Americans. I know this because when she found out I was a vegetarian, she laughed and asked if I still eat hamburgers.... really Marie, I'm still laughing, you're hilarious. On our floor is the shower, used daily by me... every three days by the other girls. In a separate room is the toilet... which i am not allowed to flush between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. In my room, I have my own sink. I actually really like this. It's so convenient!
On the second floor lives Claire. Claire is around 9. She LOVES horses, so naturally, she loves me too. She's super cute. The parents have their bedroom on this floor too. Marguerite is 12 years old. She goes to boarding school, but comes home on the weekends. Don't ask me why the 12 year old has to go to boarding school and the others don't. The eldest daughter, also named Marie, goes to University in Paris. She studies art. She came home Thursday to go to the dentist. She has a low voice, short hair, and is kinda freakayy.
Whoever said the french dress chic... not true. This family wears the same clothes for a week. The same clothes. On Sundays, they start a new rotation.
My mother d'accueil is quiet and very hard to read. But she's a good cook. So she can stay.  The father is an intellectual. He likes to tell me long history lessons during dinner. Sometimes they have a funny punchline. He also speaks german as well. If he wants to know a word in english, he'll say it in german because maybe that way I'll understand better...? Regardless, he's a nice man and I actually enjoy talking to him and listening to his stories.

That all being said, my FAVORITE part of the blog today is going to be talking about meal times. Last night, and the night before, we did not sit down for dinner until 9 PM. Now, this is strange. And not ok. I was STARVING. I actually cried, in the kitchen, and I cried when I called my brother Peter, who told me he would send me American snacks. I emailed my teacher,  Mme Kingue, and she told me it was not ok and the way I was feeling was understandable. The other teacher, Mme Fazelli, got mad and promised to call my family immediately. I told her it would be better for me to talk to them on my own. When I came home today, I asked if we could have dinner earlier, like before 9PM. The mom gave me some spiel about a doctors appointment and something about a train. I just said, ok but can we have dinner earlier. She asked what time, I said before nine. My teachers told me to tell her I get migraines (the french have a fear of migraines). That did the trick. So tonight, nous dinerons avant 9h, j'espere.

Tomorrow, I will share about my AWESOME day during our cuisine workshop! (PICS INCLUDED :D)

730 PM... called me to the dinner table. That can be recorded as a win. Meghan 1(un) Frenchie Fam 0 (zero)

  4. Tobie- The dad is an art professor and the Mom doesn't work. I think he works at the school I go to but its honestly a HUGE school. I am at the University of Letters and Languages, but there are so many others. All the different schools make the Universite Francois Rabelais, so I am assuming he works at the art school... somewhere in Tours, but I actually don't know!
